How to Enable Your Camera and Microphone for Video Chat

Live video needs browser permission. Opening Chatspin does not turn the camera on by itself—allow access when the prompt appears, then confirm the site and system settings if it stays blocked.

To use live video on Chatspin, your browser must be allowed to use the camera and microphone. That permission is requested when you start a live video feature—not when you open a guide, the homepage, or browser video chat. If you only want to message first, you can stay in text without turning anything on.

This guide walks through the prompt itself, then the Chrome, Safari, and Firefox menus, then the system switches on computers and phones. After a change, refresh the tab or restart the browser so the new setting is actually used.

Use the browser permission prompt

When a live video room needs the camera, the browser shows a prompt such as Allow or Block. Choose Allow if you want cam-to-cam. If you choose Block, Chatspin cannot see or hear you until you reverse that choice in site settings. A landing page load is not that prompt.

  1. Start the video feature you actually want, such as a match room.
  2. Read the prompt and choose Allow for camera, microphone, or both.
  3. If nothing appears, look for a camera icon or lock icon in the address bar.
  4. If you already blocked the site, use the browser menus below instead of waiting for a second prompt.

Allow access in Chrome on desktop and mobile

Chrome stores camera and microphone permission per site. After you change it, reload Chatspin so the room can ask again.

Chrome on a computer

  1. Open chatspin.video in Chrome.
  2. Select the lock or tune icon at the left of the address bar.
  3. Open Site settings.
  4. Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
  5. Reload the tab, then start live video again.

Chrome on Android

  1. Open the Chatspin tab in Chrome.
  2. Tap the lock icon beside the address.
  3. Tap Permissions.
  4. Turn Camera and Microphone on for this site.
  5. Reload, then enter the video room again.

Chrome’s own walkthrough is here: Use your camera and microphone in Chrome.

Allow access in Safari on Mac

Safari keeps website camera and microphone settings in Website Settings for the current page, and also in Safari Settings under Websites.

  1. Open Chatspin in Safari on your Mac.
  2. Choose Safari > Settings for This Website, or click the page icon beside the Smart Search field and open Website Settings.
  3. Set Camera to Allow and Microphone to Allow.
  4. If the menus are missing, open Safari Settings > Websites, then Camera and Microphone, and set chatspin.video to Allow.
  5. Reload the page before you start live video.

Apple documents this in Change website settings in Safari for Mac.

Allow access in Firefox

Firefox can remember a Block choice. Clear it in the Permissions panel for the site, then reload.

  1. Open Chatspin in Firefox.
  2. Select the lock icon in the address bar.
  3. Open Connection secure > More information, or use the Permissions shortcut if shown.
  4. Find Use the Camera and Use the Microphone and remove the block, or set them to Allow.
  5. Reload the tab and start the video room again.

Mozilla’s guide is How to manage your camera and microphone permissions.

Turn on system permission for the browser

  1. 1Browser permission

Allow camera and microphone for this site when the prompt appears.

  2. 2System permission

Confirm the operating system allows that same browser to use both devices.

  3. 3Correct device

Select the camera and microphone you actually intend to use, then refresh.

If the site is allowed but the picture stays black, the operating system may still be blocking the browser app itself. Fix the OS switch, then restart the browser.

  • macOS: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera, then Microphone. Enable Google Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.
  • Windows: Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, then Microphone. Allow access for the desktop app and for Chrome or Firefox.
  • iOS: Settings > Safari (or Chrome) > Camera and Microphone. Also check Settings > Privacy & Security for the browser.
  • Android: Settings > Apps > Chrome > Permissions. Allow Camera and Microphone.

Select the correct camera and microphone

Laptops with a USB cam, a headset, and a phone hot-spot can expose several devices. The browser may have permission while still using a webcam that is covered or a mic that is muted.

  1. Open the browser’s site settings or device picker for the current tab.
  2. Choose the camera you can see in a mirror or system preview.
  3. Choose the microphone you speak into, not a virtual cable or unused headset.
  4. Unmute hardware switches on the laptop and on the headset.

Refresh or restart after you change a setting

Permission changes often apply only after a reload. If reload is not enough, fully quit the browser—including background Chrome helpers on Windows—and open Chatspin again. Then start live video so a fresh prompt can appear.

You can message without enabling a camera

Text chat does not need camera or microphone permission. If you are still sorting access, open messages and start with text. Move to video later from Start Free Video Chat when the devices work. Chatspin does not enable the camera just because you opened this article.

Official help from Chrome, Safari, and Firefox

Use the vendor pages for the exact menu names on your version. Chatspin cannot override a system-level block.

Official help:

Before you retry live video

  • The live video feature—not the article—was what triggered the prompt.
  • The site is set to Allow for camera and microphone.
  • The OS allows that same browser to use both devices.
  • The selected camera and mic are the ones you intend to use.
  • You reloaded or restarted the browser after the last change.
